Two unidentified men were found dead this afternoon, riddled with bullets, each inside a pickup truck, on the Zacatecas-Durango highway near the municipality of Sain Alto, Zacatecas, after being ambushed by a group of gunmen.

The two men, killed with high-powered rifles, were found in two different vehicles: one inside a tan Toyota Tacoma pickup, which was left parked on the side of the highway after the attack, and the other, a late-model red Dodge pickup, also containing a man who had been shot to death. It was reported that the gunmen left a banner with a drug-related message on one of the vehicles, but authorities did not release its contents.

Separately, the “Escarabajos” collective of mothers searching for their missing loved ones located the remains of a man during a field search they conducted on a rural property in the community of Laguna de las Rosas, in the municipality of Villanueva.

The first was inside a red Dodge pickup truck, a newer model, also containing a man who had been shot to death. In another incident of insecurity, residents of the municipality of Fresnillo reported to the 911 emergency system that on Friday morning, armed men set up roadblocks on Federal Highway 23, which connects to the municipality of Jerez, where they were selectively stealing vehicles from people traveling through the area.

The gunmen reportedly stole vehicles from at least two families, but as of Friday afternoon, the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office had not confirmed the make and model of the stolen vehicles.
