With the goal of promoting physical activity and strengthening a culture of preventative healthcare, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has opened a gym at the Durango Social Security Center, open to both IMSS members and non-members.
This space aims to encourage healthy habits among the public by offering an accessible service with extended hours and low costs, as part of the institutional strategy promoting the motto “Sport is Health.” The gym is available to people over 16 years of age interested in improving their physical condition and overall well-being.
Registration has a one-time fee of 113 pesos, while hourly access costs 10 pesos for IMSS members and 12 pesos for non-members, making it an affordable alternative to other private facilities. Registration hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The facilities are located at 100 Predio Canoas Street, Silvestre Dorado neighborhood, and offer direct assistance for guidance and reservations via telephone at (618) 81 10 391.
To train at the IMSS gyms, interested individuals must meet basic requirements, including presenting an official ID (INE), proof of address no older than three months, and a recent medical certificate attesting to their physical fitness. In some cases, a registration form is also required, with minor variations depending on whether the applicant is a beneficiary, employee, retiree, or member of the general public.
With this initiative, the IMSS reinforces its commitment to preventative health by providing spaces that facilitate access to physical exercise as a key tool for improving the quality of life of the Durango population.
