Durango city on alert for intense cold and possible frost; when does it start?

Meteorological authorities have called on residents to prepare for three consecutive days of low temperatures, which could bring the first frosts of the season to much of the urban area of ​​Durango.

Víctor Hugo Randeles, head of the Meteorology and Hydrology Department of the National Water Commission (Conagua) in Durango, reported that the state will be affected by cold front number 27 and the second winter storm of the season.

He explained that this system will bring very cold to freezing conditions to practically the entire state, with noticeable temperature drops throughout the morning, afternoon, and evening, as well as the possibility of snow and/or sleet in various regions.

The official explained that, although frosts have already been recorded in the southern part of the state, they could occur for the first time this season in most of the urban area of ​​Durango.

Given these conditions, he urged the public to take extra precautions, particularly during the weekend and on Monday, the day classes resume. In that regard, he asked parents to send their children to school well-dressed for the cold.

According to the local Conagua (National Water Commission) forecast, these weather conditions will persist through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

As for the specific forecast, Saturday is expected to have a low of 0 degrees Celsius in the morning, a high of 18 degrees in the afternoon, and a low of 4 degrees at night, along with mostly cloudy skies and winds between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour.

On Sunday, the temperature could drop to -1 degree Celsius in the morning, with a high of 18 degrees and a low of 6 degrees at night.

Finally, Monday is forecast to have a low of 0 degrees Celsius in the morning, a high of 20 degrees, and a low of 12 degrees at night.

Randeles added that the winter storm could bring snowfall to several municipalities in the state during the coming week. However, the highest probability of snow is concentrated in the high mountain areas, mainly in Guanaceví, Tepehuanes, Santiago Papasquiaro and Otáez, while in the Valleys and Plains regions sleet is expected, without significant accumulations.
