Dengue is a disease transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito. This illness affects people of all ages, with symptoms ranging from mild to debilitating fever, headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle aches, and other discomforts.
In Veracruz, dengue cases have continued unabated, making it one of the states in the country with the highest number of infections and deaths. According to the latest report from the National Epidemiological Surveillance System of the Ministry of Health, this is the toll this disease has taken in the state.
According to the report, in 2025, 722 probable dengue-related deaths were reported in Mexico. Of these, 85 have been confirmed, 377 are still under investigation, and 310 were ruled out. For Veracruz, so far this year, the following has been reported:

With these numbers, the state is among those with the highest number of deaths still under clinical and epidemiological analysis.
Last year, the state of Veracruz accumulated 2,863 confirmed cases of dengue, a lower figure than the 8,204 confirmed cases recorded the previous year. The number of deaths also decreased, from 0.45 in 2024 to 0.14 in 2025.
Although infections are declining in most of the state, there are areas where dengue transmission remains active. For example, in Veracruz, the municipalities with the highest incidence to date are: Gutiérrez Zamora, Pánuco, Zaragoza, and Coetzala.

According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), as of epidemiological week (EW) 50 of 2025, a total of 4,362,955 suspected cases of dengue were reported in the Americas (cumulative incidence of 429 cases per 100,000 inhabitants). This figure represents a 67% decrease compared to the same period in 2024 and a 9% decrease compared to the average of the last 5 years.
For the Central America and Mexico subregion, a total of 2,235 new suspected cases of dengue were reported during epidemiological week 50. As of this week, the subregion shows a decrease of 78% compared to the same period in 2024 and 46% compared to the average of the last 5 years.
