From the National Palace, Sheinbaum Pardo stated, regarding the differences between the United States and Cuba, that Mexico could act as a mediator, should it be in the best interest of both countries.
“Mexico is a sovereign nation, and Mexico makes its own decisions, first and foremost. Secondly, regarding the disagreements—let’s put it this way—between the United States and Cuba, Mexico is fully prepared to be a vehicle for generating dialogue. What needs to happen? Well, both nations, both states, must agree on the conditions under which it would take place,” she indicated.
“We believe that those who should decide the fate of the Cuban people are the Cuban people themselves, because that is what our Constitution states: the sovereignty of the people. Therefore, we operate within that framework,” she emphasized.
