Authorities in Sonora confirmed the safe return of Víctor Hugo Álvarez Yescas, a 39-year-old man who had been reported missing since January 12.
On the night of Friday, January 16, the man returned on his own to the urban area of Puerto Peñasco, apparently unharmed and showing no signs of having been in danger.
In his statement, Víctor Hugo explained that the reason for his absence was a trip to a ranch in the ejido (communal land) of Y Griega, in the municipality of Caborca, where he met with two women identified only as “María” and “Lupita,” as well as a friend named Jesús “N.” They socialized and consumed alcoholic beverages, but after an argument with his companion, he decided to leave and return to Puerto Peñasco, hitching a ride on the highway.
Since his disappearance was reported, the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office (FGJES) activated the corresponding protocols for locating Víctor Hugo Álvarez, in coordination with various security agencies.
The search involved agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC) and the State Public Security Police (PESP), who conducted patrols and search operations in various areas of the state.
Simultaneously, collaboration was established with the State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons to strengthen the search efforts and maintain communication with his family. The collective “Buscándote Luis Alan SM” (Looking for You, Luis Alan SM) also supported the search, joining the efforts to publicize and monitor the case until his location was finally confirmed.
Upon his return, Víctor Hugo was welcomed back by his family in good health. Authorities ruled out that he had been the victim of a crime and stated that, according to his own testimony, there was no situation of risk that would justify his abduction.
