The state government revealed that the first case of measles has been detected in Puebla, prompting the activation of the corresponding health measures to search for more suspected cases.
The Ministry of Health issued a statement specifying that the first case of measles in Puebla was a 30-year-old woman, a beneficiary of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) and a resident of Puebla City.
The agency indicated that the patient has been fully identified and is already receiving medical attention and appropriate treatment.
“After being evaluated and receiving timely medical attention, she is stable, without complications, and remains under home isolation,” the statement said.
He specified that a Rapid Response Team (RRT) for measles was activated “immediately,” which includes the participation of epidemiology specialists from various health sector institutions.
“Among the actions implemented are vaccination containment at the case’s home, targeted searches for possible suspected cases, and reinforcement of vaccination schedules in the area,” he stated.
The Ministry of Health recommended that the public wear face masks in public and enclosed spaces, wash their hands frequently, practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette, and get vaccinated against measles.
Likewise, it urged people to go immediately to their nearest health center if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, eye irritation, or skin rashes, and to refrain from social activities.
He also reminded the public that vaccines are available for children from 6 months to 9 years old, as well as adolescents and adults from 10 to 49 years old. Therefore, if you do not have a complete vaccination schedule, it is recommended that you request it at your nearest clinic.
With the first case of measles in Puebla, there are no longer any states free of this disease within their borders. As of January 16, Chihuahua held the top spot, with more than 6,200 cases.
