In one week, Hidalgo accumulated one new confirmed case of measles, bringing the total to two cases of this disease recognized by authorities this year, according to the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Federal Ministry of Health, as of January 16.
In addition, the number of accumulated probable cases in the state increased to six, with no deaths caused by the disease, the federal agency detailed in its daily report on the measles outbreak in Mexico.
Reviewing the daily analyses of the General Directorate of Epidemiology, it appears that on January 5, Hidalgo registered zero accumulated probable cases, as well as none confirmed; however, the first probable case occurred on January 7, and by January 9, there were three.
The first confirmed case of measles in Hidalgo in 2026 occurred on January 12. Meanwhile, the number of probable cases increased, first to four and currently to six.
It is worth noting that the first confirmed case of measles in Hidalgo this year is a 21-year-old woman from Actopan, who is currently in stable condition and in isolation, reported the Hidalgo State Health Secretariat (SSH).
This brings the total to three cases since 2015, following the first incident reported on October 31 of last year by the state agency. The first case involved a minor from Pachuca with no vaccination history, who had traveled to and stayed in the State of Mexico for two weeks.
The confirmed measles cases, according to the location of notification, are currently distributed across 31 states and 244 municipalities in the country, the federal agency detailed.
Previously, the Hidalgo State Health Secretariat activated epidemiological protocols, which include timely notification of the case, clinical follow-up of the patient, implementation of a sanitary cordon, and identification and monitoring of close contacts, with the aim of preventing the spread of the virus.
Likewise, epidemiological surveillance efforts were strengthened, and the public was urged to visit health centers, as well as the ISSSTE, IMSS (regular), and IMSS-Bienestar medical units in their respective municipalities, to review and complete their vaccination schedules, especially for children, adolescents, and older adults.
The Hidalgo State Health Secretariat maintains coordination with municipal and state authorities and other institutions in the sector to strengthen prevention, control, and protection measures.
