Seven out of ten households in Mexico have a pet, a figure that contrasts sharply with the 4.5% drop in the national birth rate. Specialists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) attribute this phenomenon to the economic crisis and the fact that younger generations consider raising a child more expensive.
The preference for dogs and cats reflects a greater awareness of animal rights and the search for affection without long-term financial commitments. Currently, these animals are considered fundamental parts of modern family life.
