Nayarit has been included in the Intensive Repaving and Pothole Repair Program for the Central-Western Region, which entails a regional investment of 7.3 billion pesos and the repair of 2,444 kilometers of federal highways during 2026. The announcement was made during Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s morning press conference by the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, on Wednesday morning.
For the state, the program focuses on sections connecting Nayarit with the central and western parts of the country and with the Pacific corridor—routes used daily by freight transport, tourism, and regional travel. Among the roads included are federal highways such as Highway 15 and Highway 200, as well as other routes that connect Tepic with neighboring states.
The interventions are part of strategic corridors such as Mexico City–Nuevo Laredo, Manzanillo–Tampico, the Central-Western-Bajío region, and Guadalajara–Zacatecas, placing Nayarit within a priority network for the transportation of people and goods. According to reports, the work aims to improve safety and functionality on high-traffic sections.
In practical terms, Nayarit’s inclusion in this federal plan entails repaving and pothole repair on highways that directly impact travel times, vehicle wear and tear, and the state’s economic connectivity, as these roads support a significant portion of the region’s productive and tourism activity.
