After state police and members of the Mexican Army burned five properties containing marijuana plants in Tequila on January 22, state and federal agents located three more plots of land with approximately 56,000 plants in the same municipality.
Police and soldiers were conducting an operation on a dirt road near the Amatitán-El Salvador Highway, in the Milán district, when they spotted several marijuana plants. After inspecting the site, they discovered the three properties where the plants were being cultivated.
The plants ranged in height from 45 centimeters to 1.3 meters, according to preliminary information. After taking samples and notifying a federal prosecutor, the plots were burned. No arrests were reported following the discovery.
Days earlier, in the same municipality, but in the Santa Cruz district, 104,000 marijuana plants were destroyed. Security forces discovered the drug caches on a dirt road leading from the municipal seat to the town of El Salvador. No arrests were made in connection with the operation.
