The “Club Álamos”: the oldest cantina and its anecdotes

2

There are places where they don’t just serve drinks… they serve stories.

And in Álamos, if those walls could talk, they’d surely ask for another round.

That place is Club Álamos.

Although its adobe facade might suggest a colonial feel, it actually began in 1915—likely as a shoe factory—and ended up becoming, in 1965, the oldest cantina still open in the City of Portals.

Chronicler Juan Carlos Holguín recounts that for many years it was exclusively male territory.

A club where the bar—a nearly ninety-year-old gem brought from another social club—heard more secrets than any confessional… and surely kept them better.

Here, trends, crises… and even promises of “just one” survived.

Not even the 2008 flood could bring down Club Álamos.

“It started as a bar for men, not women, but they did have dances, for example, New Year’s Eve… It was like an event hall, more for men because it had a pool table… It’s the oldest bar still operating in Álamos.”

Today, Club Álamos is experiencing a renaissance. A new mural, gleaming floors, and tables where moments are shared.
