A tour announcing an investment of over 23 billion pesos, housing construction for the most needy, maintenance on all highways, expanded social programs, and even the inauguration of the National Customs Agency facilities, which will operate from Nuevo Laredo starting today, is nothing short of good news for Tamaulipas, for the governor, and for creating an enviable atmosphere.
And yet, those who oppose the well-being of the people of Tamaulipas always have negative things to say, because it’s very simple: for them, reality doesn’t matter, only how they can try to undermine Tamaulipas’s progress.
Look, in Reynosa, where the most extensive investment announcement was made—covering social programs, housing, and some 23 billion pesos in various public works projects for the state—there are signs that Mayor Carlos Peña threw a tantrum because he wasn’t initially included on the platform. He ordered publications to attack the government of Américo Villarreal, clumsily, because he knows full well that all events, for security and logistical reasons, are planned and approved by the President of the Republic himself. Sometimes even high-ranking state officials have watched from afar, and this isn’t new; it’s always been the case, and it’s happened with all political parties.
In Nuevo Laredo, where the National Customs Agency was inaugurated, and in Tampico, where there were health-related events, they also sought out trivial matters to try to tarnish the presidential visit. These always originated from groups or individuals sponsored by the fugitive, nothing that came from the people.
The truth is, everything went smoothly for Américo Villarreal, no matter how you look at it. The presidential visit lasted two days, much longer than usual. The investment announcements were unprecedented, with so many zeros, and, fortunately for the governor’s inner circle, the star was the state leader himself, who received the most tangible proof that they still have confidence in him. The president embraced him, made him a figurehead, and showed Mexico and the world that the pronouncements of the charlatan Vicente Fox—incidentally, Cabeza N’s first backer—were nothing but nonsense, pure drivel.
Politically, Tamaulipas is more stable than ever, with a single leader recognized by the president, who has no friends and no commitments other than to Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya. Everything else, everything that is said, especially what is paid for with public funds, has no other intention than to attack and spread falsehoods.
In conclusion, the Cabeza de Vaca faction is pained by Tamaulipas’s success. They are pained because they know that this presidential visit reduces their chances of regaining control of the budget and exploiting public funds as they did for many years.
Obviously, they are not the only ones who feel resentment towards the state’s positive progress. Also on that list are Maki and her son, Carlos Peña, the mayor of Reynosa. They sponsor their own media attack group, dreaming of diminishing the power of the governor and his team. In other words, these are their desires because they know that only in this way will they increase their chances of fighting for state budgets, since they haven’t been satisfied with those of Reynosa, a city that has been stagnant for over a decade, burdened by problems and by poor municipal administrations that have done nothing but enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else’s well-being.
GATTAS IN NATIONAL POLITICS… The mayor of Victoria, Eduardo Gattás, seems to understand that what happened in San Luis Potosí opens a small window of opportunity for male politicians who intend to compete in the upcoming elections. Women there were told they aren’t the only ones, and that’s why he’s engaging in politics and liaising with the national leaders of his party.
Look, a couple of weeks ago Gattás announced a virtual meeting with the Secretary of the Interior. Now his team is publicizing his participation in the first edition of MORENA’s Municipal School, held this past weekend in Oaxtepec, Morelos. This is no small matter, considering that the national president of MORENA, Luisa María Alcalde, was also present, along with 100 mayors from the largest municipalities in the country. And, to top it all off, the event was designed to connect them with Cabinet Secretaries in what they called training to address Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s policies.
And add that among those present were governors, such as Margarita González of the State of Morelos, as well as the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, plus the head of the National Institute of Political Training, Rafael Barajas Durán, among other members of MORENA; from there you can start to make your analysis.
