The Citizen Planning Council of the Municipality of Othón P. Blanco expressed its support for Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day Mexico project. It affirmed that the land use modification was approved in accordance with the law.
The statement was issued by its president, Jaime Aguilar. He indicated that the Othón P. Blanco City Council acted within its legal authority and in compliance with current planning instruments.
This stance comes in response to publications questioning the process. The Council warns that a narrative of suspicion has been constructed regarding an institutional decision.
Jaime Aguilar clarified that the public consultation mentioned by some groups did not apply in this case. He explained that it is only mandatory when programs are developed for the first time or are comprehensively updated.
He specified that the approved adjustment corresponds to 107.67 hectares. This represents just 3.19 percent of the 3,373.25 hectares of the Mahahual Urban Development Plan (PDU).
Finally, he argued that the debate should focus on the future of southern Quintana Roo. He stated that the challenge is to promote orderly, legal, and sustainable development that generates well-being for a historically underdeveloped region.
