Durango’s Economy Shrinks 2% in Third Quarter of 2025; Industrial Sector Hardest Hit
According to the Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE) published by INEGI, the state of Durango registered a two percent contraction in its commercial activity during the third quarter of 2025.
This figure places Durango as the third worst performing state in the nation in terms of economic performance, only behind Campeche and Coahuila.
The lack of state growth is mainly explained by the collapse in the industrial sector, while the rest of the activities show stagnation, such as the secondary sector (manufacturing), which registered the most drastic drop at -10.5 percent, being the main drag on the local economy.
The primary sector (agriculture and livestock) reported marginal growth of just 0.7 percent. The tertiary sector (commerce and services) barely achieved a perceptible advance of 0.6 percent.
States like Tlaxcala lead national growth with 2.8 percent (driven by a 10 percent increase in its primary sector activity), and Zacatecas stands out with 2.7 percent. Durango, however, remains in negative territory.
The situation is even more concerning when comparing year-over-year figures. Comparing the third quarter of 2025 with the same period in 2024, Durango’s economic decline deepens to 3.8 percent, although there are four other states in the country with even more severe year-over-year declines.
