Regional Mexican music is in mourning following the death of Óscar Alvarado, “El Chino del Rancho,” a 34-year-old singer from Durango. He died after being hospitalized for several days following a shooting outside a nightclub in Durango’s capital city on January 18.

The news was confirmed by family and close friends on social media, where fans, colleagues, and other groups in the genre shared messages of farewell and condolences for the singer’s family.

His brother, Mayito Alvarado, announced the news on his social media: “I have no words to describe what I feel, my brother, my homie, my cocaine, my Óscar, rest in peace! I can’t believe it. Today you take a piece of me with you, my king. Life will never be the same for me. You’ve gone to be with the boss. I love you and will love you forever… my brother Óscar Alvarado is gone.”

According to information released at the time by the State Public Security Secretariat, the attack occurred after a fistfight, during which the singer was shot multiple times. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention, where his condition was reported as critical from the outset.

After the incident generated various versions on social media and in the news, Salón Monterrey “El Príncipe de las Cantinas” issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

In the statement, the establishment reported that the fight took place outside its premises, after closing time and after cleaning had been completed, around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, at its location in the city of Durango.

The establishment also stated that it is cooperating closely with the relevant authorities to clarify the facts and ensure a thorough investigation.

The statement also laments the misinformation spread by a media outlet, noting that images created with artificial intelligence were used that do not correspond to what actually happened. The company affirmed that it prioritizes the safety and well-being of its customers, employees, and attendees, and described the incident as an exceptional situation.
