‘Murderer!’, ‘Get out’; Felipe Calderón confronted by students in Paris

Former President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa was heckled and called a “murderer” by students during his participation in a panel at the 2026 Leaders and Youth Summit, organized by the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po) this Wednesday.

In the video shared on social media by Jenaro Villamil, head of the Mexican State Public Broadcasting System (SPR), shouts of “murderer!” and “get out!” can be heard, while the former president smiles and the moderator, Vuk Jeremić, former president of the United Nations General Assembly, mentions that “it’s great to live in a democratic place.”

The eleventh edition, titled “Wanted: A UN Secretary-General for a Broken World,” featured the participation of Calderón Hinojosa, a member of the National Action Party (PAN); Hina Rabbani Khar, president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly; and Achim Steiner, president of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference. and Terezie Hiclová, a Master’s student in International Security.

According to the Sciences Po website, the summit’s main theme is to address how the world’s leading multilateral institution, the UN, needs a new leader capable of tackling the intertwined challenges of the 21st century.

“Can the UN become the ‘compass’ that guides humanity toward a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital future?” is part of what this summit seeks to answer, with the participation of former heads of state, academics, and students.

Prior to the panels, organized through an exclusive media alliance with The New York Times, a profile of the participants was shared.

Regarding Felipe Calderón, it was highlighted that he governed Mexico between 2006 and 2012 and that he entered politics in his twenties, even serving as national president of the National Action Party (PAN).

During his career, he served as a federal deputy from 2000 to 2003 and, under President Vicente Fox Quesada, as Secretary of Energy.

Furthermore, according to the profile, Calderón was named “Statesman of the Year” in 2012 by the World Economic Forum, among other distinctions from Brazil and the United Kingdom.

Regarding the video circulating on social media of former President Felipe Calderón being confronted at a school in Paris, France, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said: “No comment, it speaks for itself.”

During her morning press conference at the National Palace, the President emphasized that the former president’s term left many victims and highlighted the increase in kidnappings during his six-year term.

“We must remember it, remember it, and remember it,” the President said about Calderón Hinojosa’s term. She also recalled that it was after the end of the PAN member’s six-year term that “we found out that (Genaro) García Luna was colluding with organized crime.”
