In an official statement, the Tecate City Council reported that the person who was arrested has not been part of the municipal administration since September 2.
On August 26, Nancy Beatriz “N”, a Mexican citizen, was arrested at the Tecate port of entry on charges of importing controlled substances. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers, they discovered 153 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside a non-original compartment located beneath the floor of the driver’s and passenger’s seats of the vehicle she was driving when she requested entry into the United States.
In an official statement, the Tecate City Council reported that the person who was arrested has not been part of the municipal administration since September 2. In addition, it stated that the former official is completely unrelated to the events and that the municipality distances itself from any conduct she may have carried out in her personal capacity. The City Council emphasized that the actions attributed to Ortega Olazagasti have no connection whatsoever to her official duties and do not represent the conduct of the municipal administration.
The municipality reiterated that it is solely up to the competent authorities to conduct the relevant investigations, determine responsibilities, and enforce the law in accordance with legal procedures. Finally, the City Council reaffirmed its commitment to legality, transparency, and responsible public service, as well as its willingness to cooperate with authorities if required.
