Failed: Governor of Baja California Sur among the worst in Mexico

2

Baja California Sur has once again appeared at the bottom of the national citizen approval rankings, after Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío ended 2025 with a failing grade, ranking 30th out of 32 state governors, according to data released by Consulta Mitofsky.

The result confirms what is already a widespread perception in the streets, neighborhoods, and on social media: a government that fails to convince or generate public trust. The evaluation by Mitofsky, one of the polling firms with the largest national presence, reflects the low approval rating of the Baja California Sur governor, placing him among the worst-performing governors, far from the top spots and the support expected at this stage of his administration.

The 30th place ranking is no coincidence. During 2025, Baja California Sur faced security crises and high-impact events, criticism of questionable political decisions, citizen dissatisfaction with public services and a lack of results, and controversial appointments that have come under public scrutiny. All of this has contributed to the erosion of the state executive’s image, which began 2026 with an increasingly limited margin for maneuver.

The ranking not only displays a number, but also a social barometer. The state administration is not connecting with the public, and the results are insufficient to reverse the negative perception. While other governors manage to end the year with acceptable or high approval ratings, Víctor Castro remains at the bottom of the list, sending a warning signal as his term nears its end. The question remains: Will there be a change of course, or will Baja California Sur continue to pay the price for a failing government?
