Through a commitment by the OXXO convenience store chain in Baja California Sur (BCS), in collaboration with the State Public Security Secretariat (SPPE), approximately 418 of its stores in the state will be designated as Violet Zones. These safe spaces will allow people facing situations of risk or violence to find refuge and request immediate help.
During the signing of the agreement, it was emphasized that this initiative aims to strengthen prevention and ensure that women have access to safe, nearby, and accessible spaces to activate support protocols, in coordination with law enforcement agencies and emergency services.
As part of this joint effort, staff at the stores operating as Violet Zones will receive specialized training in assisting victims of violence. They will also be equipped with an emergency button directly linked to 911, enabling a faster, more effective, and timely response.
In his message, the Secretary of Public Security, Luis Alfredo Cancino Vicente, emphasized that this administration is working diligently not to normalize violence, but to combat it at its root causes through inter-institutional coordination, community participation, and concrete actions that generate real results for the benefit of the population. He reiterated that the protection network will continue to be expanded so that there is no room for violence against girls, boys, adolescents, and women in Baja California Sur.
For his part, the Pacific Zone Manager of OXXO noted that this strategy is part of the OXXO Seguros (OXXO Safe) program, which aims to establish stores as safe havens and support centers, contributing to the building of safer communities and demonstrating that the private sector can responsibly contribute to causes that transform public life in the country.
