The Tijuana National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) has called on municipal authorities to address reports of harassment and alleged extortion by police officers against tourists.
These practices have led to a decrease in visitors, primarily from the United States, impacting the city’s food, hotel, and health tourism sectors.
Canaco warns that Tijuana is a binational economy, and that a lack of understanding of this dynamic, coupled with traffic congestion and difficult mobility, reduces consumption and creates daily uncertainty for businesses.
The call is clear: correct these inappropriate behaviors and guarantee a safe environment that benefits tourism and the local economy.
Have you witnessed or been a victim of these acts while visiting Tijuana?
