Businessmen maintain dialogue with authorities to promote economic growth in Chiapas: Miguel Ángel Blas, president of Canaco

The business sector of Chiapas maintains an ongoing dialogue with state authorities with the aim of raising needs, proposals and strategies that contribute to the economic growth of the entity during 2026, reported Miguel Ángel Blas Gutiérrez, president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco Servytur) Tuxtla.

In an interview, the business leader pointed out that, although a formal working table with the authorities has not yet been finalized, the rapprochement is in process and is part of a stage of internal feedback within the business association, in which the results of the previous year are evaluated and strategies for the current fiscal year are redefined.

Blas Gutiérrez stressed that the economic expectations for this year are positive, due to factors such as the attraction of investments, the strengthening of security and the increase in employment in the state, conditions that, he said, generate a favorable environment for the economic development of Chiapas.

Among the main areas of opportunity detected for 2026, he mentioned the strengthening of trade with Guatemala and other neighboring countries, as well as the exploration of exports to the United States. He also highlighted the importance of attracting new companies that wish to invest in the state as a way to detonate the local economy.

Regarding the situation on the southern border, the president of Canaco Servytur Tuxtla indicated that the commercial relationship with Guatemala has been working for months and announced that at the end of February a meeting between business chambers will be held in Guatemala City, in order to strengthen economic exchange and avoid effects derived from the political situation in the border region.

Finally, Blas Gutiérrez pointed out that, unlike previous years, the so-called “January slope” has not had a severe impact on the business sector, which he attributed to the attraction of investments and the establishment of commercial relations during 2025.
