Mexicans and members of the Morena party rejected the order signed by US President Donald Trump imposing tariffs on goods from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba.

The Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba rejected “imperial pressure” against the island and Mexico, and the Communist Unity movement denounced “more aggressive and blatant” US intervention.

They indicated that, as Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has stated, the delivery of oil to Cuba is a “sovereign decision” that will be carried out in accordance with Pemex contracts.

“We call on the people to support, without hesitation, the actions of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government and urge them to take a firmer stance on foreign policy, especially to support the decision to continue sending fuel to Cuba,” the Communist Unity stated.

Dolores Padierna, deputy coordinator of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, declared that “this is not foreign policy: it is imperialism in its purest form.”

“It is a trade war aggression intended to punish sovereign countries and turn hunger and energy into weapons of pressure.

“These are inhumane, illegal, and coercive measures, designed to suffocate an entire people and force geopolitical alignments,” she said.
