Despite the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) announcing a budget exceeding 30 million pesos for the Transpeninsular Highway, the business sector in Los Cabos asserts that it has not received official confirmation regarding the start date or the exact cost of the improvement works, particularly for the four-lane section.
This was stated by Julio Castillo Gómez, executive president of the Los Cabos Coordinating Council, who explained that although pothole repair and asphalt maintenance have been carried out by the City Council and the State Government through the Social Infrastructure Works Trust (FOIS), there remains a lack of clarity regarding SICT’s involvement.
“Regarding the pothole repair and asphalt resurfacing issues on the four lanes, we have received no response from the City Council and the State Government through FOIS. We continue to await their response, as this section of highway is fundamental for development,” Castillo Gómez stated.
For its part, the SICT Center in Baja California Sur reported that paving trains will be implemented during the construction work, and these will begin operating in the coming months. Meanwhile, pothole repair work began on Monday, January 26, to improve traffic flow on the Transpeninsular Highway. These rehabilitation efforts will be carried out in coordination with FOIS and the Los Cabos City Council, ensuring that the improvements to the federal highway progress in parallel.

The Transpeninsular Highway is a strategic section for mobility, tourism, and the economy of Los Cabos, which is why the business sector insists on the need for the SICT to confirm start dates and investment amounts to guarantee the planning and development of the municipality.
