In Sonora, President Sheinbaum inaugurates the Bavispe-Nuevo Casas Grandes highway

In Bavispe, Sonora, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the Bavispe-Nuevo Casas Grandes highway, which connects to Chihuahua.

“We committed to building this highway, and nothing brings more joy to the relationship between the people and the government than fulfilling a promise. So today we come to say: we have kept our promise to you; this highway is now a reality.”

According to the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, this highway spans 134 kilometers, 18 of which are in Sonora and 116 in Chihuahua; 67 kilometers are new construction, and another 67 kilometers were rehabilitated.

The federal government invested 1.822 billion pesos and generated 5,466 direct and indirect jobs. The highway has two lanes, seven bridges, and two interchanges.

Construction began in March 2025 and is part of the commitments to continue the projects initiated by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Also accompanying the president were: the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño; the Undersecretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, Juan Carlos Fuentes Orrala; and the General Coordinator of Development Programs, Carlos Torres Rosas.

Representing SICT were the Director General of Highways, Carlos Arceo Castañeda; and the Director General of the SICT Sonora Center, Máximo Moscoso Pintado. Also present was the Mayor of Bavispe, Conrado Durazo Montaño.
