Kuzá Beach & Adventure Park, located on the island of Cozumel, said that its priority is to generate responsible tourism, formal employment and economic spillover in Quintana Roo. The above, after the recent complaints of contractors who participated in the construction of the second stage of the park, who accused the company of alleged contractual breaches, economic debts and environmental damages.

The corporate owner of the park, based in Miami and with more than 15 years in the cruise industry, reported that since April of last year it has generated more than 260 direct jobs and 533 indirect jobs. These figures, they said, will grow with the opening of the second phase. The plan calls for a world-class water park.

Kuzá stressed that he has prioritized the hiring of local talent. It works with more than 25 contractors in the region and more than 70 local suppliers. He recognized the support of the community and authorities but also denounced unfounded accusations to discredit the project.

The company pointed directly to PIA Taller de Espacios, a firm that was paid about 60 million pesos for various works. The most relevant contract, the main pool, was due to be delivered in June 2025. The work was abandoned six months later, unfinished and with structural failures.

However, according to architect Héctor Vidal, representative of PÍA Taller de Espacios, since November 2024 his company has maintained a working relationship with Kuzá Park, backed by 16 signed contracts. He added that on December 23, 2025, they were denied access to the work, despite the fact that they still had work in progress and a warehouse with tools inside the property. “The debt has been going on for more than nine months. Many works were financed with their own resources, and the response was the eviction of the project and the prohibition of access,” said Vidal.

In the absence of a response, Vidal requested the intervention of the governor of Quintana Roo and the municipal president of Cozumel, to urge investors to comply with pending payments, not only with his company, but with other suppliers in the same situation.

The first stage of the park, in operation since April 2025, is mainly focused on cruise tourism and includes restaurants and a beach area. The second stage, currently in conflict, includes the construction of a swimming pool, amenities and new restaurants.

As reported by REPORTUR.mx, Cozumel’s presence at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) marked a new stage in the destination’s promotion strategy, with a clear message: the island sought to consolidate itself in the global market as a comprehensive tourism reference, beyond its traditional sun and beach positioning.
