During a tour conducted by the Meganoticias Tepic team through various parts of the city, we observed that despite the considerable increase in the price of products such as sugary drinks, tobacco, and some snacks, consumers continue to purchase them regularly, without any significant decrease in sales.
According to testimonies from some merchants interviewed, the price hike has not had a major impact, and they assert that, although these items did increase in price, customers did not reduce their consumption. “Sales haven’t gone down, even with the price adjustment,” stated Rolando, a merchant.
In the case of snacks, the increase was implemented in December; however, the impact was minimal, as consumers quickly adapted to the new cost and maintained their purchasing habits.
This situation shows that, despite recent increases implemented to discourage consumption and promote better health habits, products such as soft drinks and cigarettes continue to maintain their purchasing patterns without significant changes.
