A new earthquake has been recorded in San Marcos, Guerrero; there have been more than 6,200 aftershocks.

A new earthquake of magnitude 4.2, with its epicenter near the town of San Marcos, Guerrero, was recorded by the sensors of the National Seismological Service in the region.

The tremor originated at a depth of 7.2 kilometers (4.5 miles) below the surface, and was felt in regions near the epicenter, with reports even coming from some areas of Acapulco.

According to the Guerrero State Civil Protection agency, no injuries or significant material damage were reported, although preventive inspections are being carried out.

The National Seismological Service detailed that this tremor is part of the series of aftershocks of the earthquake that occurred on January 2nd, which had a magnitude of 6 and was felt in Mexico City.

“As of 8:00 p.m. on February 2, 2026, 6,208 aftershocks have been recorded following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck San Marcos, Guerrero, on January 2, 2026, the largest of which was magnitude 5.0,” the agency detailed.

State authorities recommend staying informed by monitoring updates from the National Seismological Service and relying only on verified sources of information.
