Mazatlán Carnival: Commitment to Peace in a Narco-War Situation

4

With a security operation for the Mazatlán Carnival 2026, federal, state, and municipal authorities face persistent violence in Sinaloa, the disappearance of 10 miners in Concordia, and the challenge of guaranteeing peace, tourist security, and social trust during the main festival of the Mexican port.

With the flag to the security operation that will provide protection to the Mazatlan Carnival to be held from February 12 to 17, the federal, state and municipal public force will face from today a challenge above the other challenge, which is the pacification of Sinaloa after almost 17 months of uninterrupted violence due to the confrontation between groups of the Sinaloa Cartel.

In addition, the military and police must attend to the social demand so that the 10 workers of a mine in the municipality of Concordia, who since January 23 have been victims of illegal deprivation of liberty perpetrated by armed civilians, are located and returned to their families.

With the participation of around 10,000 elements of the Army, Navy, National Guard, state and federal police, as well as special forces assigned to investigation and intelligence tasks, it has not been possible to recover the lost peace and the government proceeds more to react than to prevent and solve the problem.

For this reason, we must be aware that from several flanks of violence Carnival 2026 is at risk due to the strong criminal activity registered in the central and southern areas of the state, placing tourists, locals and economic activities with all the confidence that the authorities will be able to grant the right conditions for this Mazatlán party to be held safely that places fun above the fear of drug war.

Mazatlán will be in the focus of the attention of the State and the country, with the expectation that Carnival and public safety around this festivity mean the haven of peace that highlights Sinaloa for its good things. As an achievement of society and government, we can make it possible for the festival of tinsel, masquerade, and music to open the way to positive and permanent peace.
