Two people diagnosed with measles are hospitalized at the IMSS-Bienestar Hospital in Playa del Carmen, making these the first cases this year in Quintana Roo, amidst a nationwide outbreak of the disease.
Unofficial reports indicate that the two hospitalized individuals are a 24-year-old woman and a five-year-old child.
According to reports obtained by this news outlet, the two were hospitalized after traveling to the state of Chiapas at the end of last year.
It is currently unknown whether these two individuals, whose identities are being withheld, are related or have any other connection.
Both patients are under medical treatment and observation; however, their current health status remains confidential.
This information has not been confirmed by the Quintana Roo Health Secretariat (SESA), but it is expected that this agency will soon provide an update regarding the state’s status in the face of the outbreak affecting the country.
According to the daily measles outbreak report as of January 27, 2026, published by the Ministry of Health, the country has a cumulative total of 7,674 confirmed cases and 26 deaths.
According to this official report, infections are scattered across almost all states of Mexico, particularly in Jalisco, Michoacán, Mexico City, Chiapas, and Sinaloa.
On February 2, the Ministry of Health confirmed that Quintana Roo had no registered cases of measles.
The latest epidemiological report, as of January 30, shows that only 16 suspected cases have been detected in the state, all of which were ruled out after the relevant laboratory tests.
Unofficial reports indicated at the beginning of the month that two twin babies had been hospitalized in Chetumal with measles symptoms; however, this information has not yet been confirmed.
