Between 2025 and the beginning of 2026, 490 illegally installed video surveillance cameras have been removed from various locations throughout the state, announced Willy Zúñiga Castillo, Executive Secretary of the State Public Security System.

He further explained that the removal of these devices has been carried out through joint efforts by several law enforcement agencies, including preventative patrols and oversight operations in neighborhoods, commercial areas, and strategic locations.

He noted that these efforts also benefit from citizen reports channeled to the 911 and 089 emergency numbers, which have facilitated the location of the cameras and allowed for increased patrols and preventative measures.

According to the official, during the aforementioned period, 490 cameras that do not belong to the official surveillance systems of security institutions have been removed.

Finally, he indicated that, together with other authorities, they are working on the development of a Surveillance Law for the state, with the objective of defining clear rules and strengthening the legal framework for the installation and operation of video surveillance systems in Tamaulipas.
