In recent hours, the arrest of Pascuala López was confirmed. She is accused of leading a criminal group linked to various acts of violence in neighborhoods of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, such as Ejido Cuxtitali and El Pinar.
According to local reports, this group is responsible for burning homes, seizing land, assaulting people, and other acts that kept residents of the area under pressure for an extended period, creating a climate of fear and social instability.
After her capture was announced, residents expressed their gratitude to the authorities for their intervention and sent a message of appreciation to the State Attorney General, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, for the actions taken to restore order.
Residents stated that the detainee publicly presented herself as an activist and human rights defender, a role she allegedly used to operate with impunity while leading an armed group in the region.
They indicated that, under this guise, acts were committed that directly affected the property and safety of families in various neighborhoods of the city.
To date, authorities have not issued an official statement with further details about the charges against her or her legal status.
