Banana producers seek to strengthen marketing and defend fair prices

Banana producers’ leader Jorge González Magaña reported that a meeting was held with local producers, which included engineers representing Walmart, who expressed interest in purchasing bananas from the region.

González Magaña emphasized that they will work as a team and in coordination with the company to achieve positive results in future product marketing, strengthening the value chain and opening new market opportunities for local producers.

He also noted that they agreed to request and defend a minimum reference price of 9 pesos per kilo for bananas packed in wooden boxes and 12 pesos per kilo for bananas packed in cardboard boxes, with the goal of guaranteeing fair conditions for producers.

The leader stressed that conditions now exist to defend and maintain a fair price, after producers faced significant economic losses for several months, jeopardizing the continuity of production and job creation in the municipality of Tecomán.

Finally, he reiterated the producers’ commitment to remain organized in order to strengthen marketing and protect the banana industry, which is one of the main sources of employment and economic development in the region.
