Coahuila is distinguished by its industrial importance, one of the most dynamic in Mexico. Therefore, finding an oasis amidst this pace is perfect for taking a break and reconnecting with nature. The Ejército Mexicano Urban Forest is the region’s most ambitious reforestation project, designed to give the city back a space of fresh air and family gatherings.
The history of this place is a story of transformation. What we see today as a wooded area was, originally, a space intended to mitigate the effects of urban growth and restore local ecosystems.
Opened in several phases, its name is a tribute to the work of the armed forces in protecting natural resources. Today, this space of more than 40 hectares has become the leading example when discussing urban forests in Saltillo. The Ejército Mexicano Urban Forest is an example of how sanctuaries of life can be created right in the heart of the city.
One of the greatest attractions of this place is the opportunity to observe the wildlife of the Ejército Mexicano Urban Forest. Thanks to its artificial lake and the wide variety of trees, including oaks and pines, the park has become a vital stopover for migratory birds.
If you stroll leisurely along its trails, you can spot birds such as ducks that inhabit the lake, herons, and various species of woodpeckers. Small mammals, like squirrels and, occasionally, foxes, also live here, finding a safe haven in this forest. The body of water, besides being beautiful to behold, regulates the local temperature and supports fish and turtles.
The Ejército Mexicano Urban Forest offers a variety of experiences for all tastes. It’s a perfect place to visit with the family and spend a day in a natural setting where you can enjoy various activities such as hiking or boat rides, taking in the tranquility of the lake from the water.
If you prefer some physical activity, it’s the ideal place for jogging, as the forest has designated trails. The trails designed for runners and cyclists, surrounded by lush vegetation, will make you forget you’re in the city. Very close to the forest is the Saltillo Planetarium, another attraction you can visit to make the most of your time in the area.
