Governor Samuel García supervised the work on Tuesday, which already reports a 40% comprehensive progress for this new leisure proposal.
The old Topo Chico Preventive Center for Social Reintegration was, for a time, a symbol of violence, confinement, and despair; however, today the story is totally different, as it is now advancing steadily to become a benchmark for citizen coexistence.
Governor Samuel García supervised this Tuesday the work of the “Ponte Nuevo, Parque Libertad” project, which already reports 40% of integral progress.
Accompanied by the head of AMAR in Nuevo León, Mariana Rodríguez, as well as members of his cabinet, the state governor stressed that the rehabilitation seeks to compensate for the abandonment suffered by the property after its initial inauguration in 2021, transforming it into one of the most modern public spaces in the country.
Its cultural and recreational offer
The project is not limited to reforestation; It is a multidisciplinary complex that integrates sports, culture, and technology. According to the head of the Executive, the new Libertad Park will have 1,000 trees planted and urban gardens, four squares, community centers, and playgrounds.
But it is not only limited to this type of more common proposals, but it will also have some innovative proposals, such as a library, artificial intelligence spaces, and the new Topo Chico Museum, which will be located in the old prison building, in addition to a dog park of 1,087 square meters.
“This prison is going to have life and ideas. We are going to give wings to many children so that they can dream… we are going to have the entire cultural and artistic spectrum here,” said García Sepúlveda during the tour.
A commitment to the environment and peace
As a symbolic act of their environmental commitment, the authorities planted an ebony, a species native to the region.
The tour concluded in the new sports fields, where the officials lived with residents of the area in a “cascarita”, underlining the focus on crime prevention through sports.
The comprehensive rehabilitation is the result of a coordinated effort between the Secretariats of Citizen Participation, Environment, Culture, and Security, together with FIDEURB and FIDEPROES.
With this work, the Government of Nuevo León seeks to consolidate a profound change towards peace, justice, and community integration in a historically vulnerable sector.
