THE GREAT FAILURE OF LAKAM HA, THE PARQUET THAT WAS BORN STILL

3

It’s sad that it’s in Colombian hands and sets a bad example of development internationally.

What was expected to be a local success and a model park for Cozumel ended in a resounding failure.

The first major failure was not keeping the name LAKAM HA, a beautiful Mayan name linked to water.

Another sad failure was achieving the most difficult part: obtaining the federal permits to build a park in that area. However, its construction and consolidation as a new attraction for Cozumel didn’t materialize; it was even compared to a small Xcaret.

After sending the police officer-turned-developer, Salvador Rocha Vargas, to Mexico City to knock on doors and obtain the difficult permits, they neglected the technical and construction aspects, and everything collapsed.

A former mayor of Cancun, a former governor of Quintana Roo, and a former secretary of security, all involved as investors and developers, wanted to play in the big leagues and only lost their money. Everyone in Cozumel was promised the moon and the stars. They were told there were Spanish, French, and other European partners, but the reality is that these stories were just a way to hide the true source of the money used to build Lakam Ha.
The inexperience of the investors and the person put in charge of developing this park caused everything to become complicated and ultimately fail.
The biggest failure was having to abandon the Lakam Ha Plan and lease it to foreigners, who must feel cheated today because they only bought into problems.

The truth is, this park was doomed from the start.
It doesn’t represent a good investment for Cozumel, nor did it provide jobs for those Salvador Rocha recruited with the promise of a good salary.

And today it sets a bad international example, as they destroyed nature and are now being exposed as thieves for not paying for the construction of what was built in this place, now misleadingly called Kuza.
This story will continue, with more chapters…
