San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chis., The magician, The Mirage, who has conquered New York, announced that he will begin presentations on weekends in San Cristóbal de las Casas starting in February, although he has not defined the date.

This will be the first time the 24-year-old will perform in his hometown, having triumphed in New York, where he rubs shoulders with the elite of international magic.

“Two big things are coming: This year I return to the theater in New York to do what I like, and in February I will do something new in San Cristóbal with fixed shows on Fridays and Saturdays, from 7 to 8 p.m.,” said the magician, Jorge Luis Carranza (his first name), specialized in card magic.

In an interview, he remarked, “It will not be something very big, only for ten or twelve people, every week, while I return to the United States. I want it to be something more personal so that people are connected to me.”

He stressed that “I feel that very big shows are beautiful and eye-catching, but you don’t connect in the same way as when you are face to face and talk to the audience at that distance, and people can see your hands; That goes beyond that barrier. People are going to be around me at the table, seeing exactly what’s going on.”

The Mirage pointed out that “the shows he will present in February in San Cristóbal are inspired by the vacation trip that, together with his family, he made to Egypt at the end of the year.

“Walking through the desert and all that inspiration opened my mind. All the acts of the next show are completely new, and the material is mine,” he said.

He added, “I took a trip to Egypt. It’s a long 14-hour trip, but getting there is a different world, something unique. It was a mix because I went on vacation with my family, but I had presentations in the hotels where we stayed. I was surprised that they told me they hadn’t heard about the kind of magic tricks I do. People were fascinated. Some people cried in the hotels. I also did a show on a cruise ship. It was incredible.”

He said that “the best part was, when my brother and I were buying souvenirs and in a store, I told the clerk that I was going to show him a magic effect, and he was surprised. He ran out to get his cards because he thought it was only with my cards that he could do the magic. He gave me his deck of cards, and I did the same tricks, and he told me: ‘You’re not a tourist anymore, you’re my brother’. Later, we went with my parents to that little market, and he told them: ‘He is my brother and you are my parents too.’ It was amazing.”

He reported that in May, he will return to New York to perform as he has in the last two years. “I will stay at least four months. There I am happy, in my theater where I already know and everything feels natural.”
