Four new additions have arrived at the Guadalupe police force for the 2026 World Cup: robot dogs. The municipality in Nuevo León (in northern Mexico), home to the BBVA Stadium and the venue for four matches of the tournament, unveiled the androids on Wednesday. These dogs will assist the police in maintaining public order. Guadalupe Mayor Héctor García explained that the idea arose after the murder of two officers last year during a patrol, prompting the question: “How can we ensure that some kind of technological system enters the scene first, before the human officers who assist us with public safety?” The robot dogs, costing approximately 2.5 million pesos (around $145,200 USD), will be part of the K9-X unit and are equipped with sensors, real-time video transmission, and an audio system with remote communication capabilities. The mayor emphasized that these guardians will be the first responders in high-risk areas, entering before the police. “The robot dogs intervene in case of a fight, an excess, or an intoxicated person,” he explained.
