In Tamaulipas, as in about twenty other states, the arrest and presumed “death during transport” of “El Mencho” also provoked reactions from criminal groups.
During the crucial hours following the news, 36 criminal incidents occurred in five municipalities, including Miguel Alemán, Díaz Ordaz, and Reynosa, according to a tally released Monday morning by Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya.
The governor himself confirmed to reporters that the reaction in border areas was due to the CJNG’s relationship with the Gulf Cartel.
In that tally, the governor said, nine of the 36 criminal incidents involved roadblocks using trucks, and in five of those cases, the vehicles were set on fire. Those responsible were identified and subsequently arrested.
The governor stated that the remaining incidents were minor, involving tire spikes or other debris, which were quickly removed.
Despite the events occurring throughout the state, it was not necessary to suspend school activities, particularly in the areas where the incidents took place.
In fact, he said, the highways have remained open to traffic since Sunday. He added that in populated areas, the priority was to avoid confrontations to protect families.
No arrests have been reported, but the footage captured by the video surveillance system is being reviewed.
ONE AFTER ANOTHER… At the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas, Rector Dámaso Anaya Alvarado expressed confidence in the security strategy implemented in the state and said that everything would return to normal after the blockades.
And although the UAT (Autonomous University of Tamaulipas) is flexible regarding conducting teaching activities virtually when necessary, the report indicates that, as of Monday morning, no student absenteeism was registered in the various faculties.
Anaya Alvarado stated that following these events, the UAT will maintain communication through its official channels and institutional channels, as well as its ongoing open relationship with the Governor of Tamaulipas and the agencies responsible for security.
1.-ONE AFTER…At the schools located in border municipalities—Reynosa, Guerrero, Mier, Díaz Ordaz, Miguel Alemán, and Camargo—student traffic remained normal.
It was the Secretary of Education of Tamaulipas, Miguel Ángel Valdez García, who announced the above on Monday, after noting that the reaction of criminal groups in various states of the country led to the suspension of classes, which did not occur in Tamaulipas, he pointed out.
The official stated that during the violent events, constant communication was maintained with command centers and with the Secretary of Public Education in Mexico City, and the instruction was to continue classes in all 43 municipalities.
2.-ONE AFTER…Regarding the violent events that occurred, from which Tamaulipas was not exempt, the State Attorney General’s Office reported that no arrests were made of individuals who participated in the blockades, although vehicles were seized and have been turned over to the Attorney General’s Office.
Eduardo Govea Orozco stated that the involvement of the agency he heads was limited to investigating the reported roadblocks and remaining attentive to any calls to address the crimes committed in progress.
- This Monday, some state legislatures observed a minute of silence in honor of the soldiers killed in the line of duty during operations to neutralize members of the CJNG cartel. The same was expected to occur in the Tamaulipas State Congress, but not until next Wednesday, when the regular session is scheduled for after noon.
Many legislators residing in high-risk areas, including Reynosa, will now be willing to discuss the issue of security, although few issued calls for calm and urged authorities to take action to restore order.
One of those voices, the only one that came forward, was that of local congresswoman Magaly Deandar Robinson from Reynosa. This Monday, Marcos Gallegos followed suit, and surely others will seek to settle the score.
- ONE AFTER ANOTHER… The version that it was an FBI agent who ended the life of “El Mencho” during his transfer to the nation’s capital while he was wounded is gaining traction.
The objective of “silenced” him was to prevent him from divulging important information that would seriously compromise former President AMLO and several of his collaborators and family members. Furthermore, he would operate from wherever he was taken into custody, and once dead, he would no longer speak.
