Updated U.S. Embassy Security Alert: Ongoing Security Operations – U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Mexico (February 22, 2026) Locations: Large areas, including the state of Jalisco (including Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), the state of Baja California (including Tijuana, Tecate, and Ensenada), the state of Quintana Roo (including Cancún, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum), and portions of the states of Guanajuato, Guerrero, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.

Event: Due to ongoing security operations, road closures, and related criminal activity, U.S. citizens in the listed locations should remain in their shelters until further notice.

All U.S. government personnel at the Consulate General in Tijuana and all U.S. government personnel in the states of Guerrero, Michoacán, and Quintana Roo have been ordered to remain at home. All U.S. government personnel at the Consulate General in Monterrey have been ordered to remain in the metropolitan area.

Although no airports have been closed, road blockades have affected airline operations, and some domestic and international flights have been canceled in both Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. All taxi and ride-sharing services have been suspended in Puerto Vallarta. Some businesses have suspended operations.

Measures to take: • Seek shelter and minimize unnecessary travel. Stay at your home or hotel. • Avoid areas with police activity. • Be aware of your surroundings. • Follow news reports from local media outlets. • Follow the instructions of local authorities and, in case of emergency, call 911. • Avoid crowds. • Keep your family and friends informed of your whereabouts and well-being by phone, text message, and social media.
