The construction of affordable housing in Querétaro is being carried out in partnership with the federal government. Currently, there is a development of units valued at 600,000 pesos located in San Juan del Río, according to Jorge Rivadeneyra, president of the National Chamber of the Housing Development and Promotion Industry in Querétaro.
“In fact, the first homes in San Juan del Río are already being delivered. These are affordable homes, priced at approximately 600,000 pesos, which are definitely accessible for people earning around two minimum wages,” he emphasized.
He indicated that the developers provide the land, build the homes, and sell them to Infonavit, so that the institute, in turn, can deliver them to eligible beneficiaries. However, this final stage is still pending, as the developers are currently finishing construction.
The apartments, located 15 minutes from downtown San Juan del Río, have an area of 60 square meters with two bedrooms, designed for a family. and will be sold directly by Infonavit to its beneficiaries.
“Look, everywhere. It’s where the land meets the requirements; it has to be land that complies with Infonavit’s requirements. It’s land, let’s say, in the city centers—land is much more expensive in historic centers—but there are some plots in each of the municipalities that can meet these characteristics,” he emphasized.
He stressed that they hope the program will soon be implemented in the Querétaro metropolitan area to increase the supply of affordable housing, but it depends on the price of the properties.
He underlined that, as developers, they have affordable housing projects in municipalities like Colón and El Marqués. In the case of Colón, there are already an estimated two thousand homes with more accessible prices.
“We are also promoting the development of a housing offering in Colón and in all the municipalities, starting with the most affordable and gradually increasing in price according to workers’ means,” he stated.
