The route will begin on March 3 with three weekly flights, expanding opportunities for economic, tourism, and social integration.
Yucatán is consolidating its strategic position in southeastern Mexico with the start of operations for the Villahermosa–Mérida flight, which will begin operating on March 3 with three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The route, operated by Aerus, strengthens regional air connectivity and expands opportunities for economic, tourism, and social integration between Tabasco and Yucatán.
The announcement was led by the Secretary of Tourism Development, Darío Flota Ocampo; the Commercial Director of Aerus, Miguel Legorreta Hernández; and the Administrator of the Mérida International Airport, part of Grupo ASUR, Óscar Carrillo Maldonado.
The new connection will directly link Villahermosa with Mérida, facilitating the flow of business, family, and leisure travelers between two states with growing business activity. With this, Yucatán reaffirms its role as a key hub in the southeast, boosting regional mobility and attracting visitors.
Aerus will operate the route with new-generation Cessna Grand Caravan EX aircraft, with a capacity of 12 seats, renowned for their efficiency and performance on regional routes, and will offer personalized and punctual service that enhances the passenger experience.
During his remarks, the head of the Ministry of Tourism Development emphasized that the opening of this new direct route between Villahermosa and Mérida represents a firm step in strengthening regional air connectivity, which drives the economic and tourism development of the southeast.
Flota Ocampo added that this expansion consolidates Yucatán as an increasingly well-connected and competitive destination.
He also reported that, under the vision and support of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, Yucatán is creating the necessary conditions to facilitate the expansion of regional connectivity through coordinated work with airlines and airport groups.
For his part, Miguel Legorreta Hernández pointed out that, thanks to the strategic alliance between Aerus and Viva Aerobus, passengers will be able to purchase combined itineraries on a single ticket, with onward travel to their final destination, significantly expanding domestic and international connection options from Mérida.
Finally, he noted that this flight began in May 2024 and suspended operations in February 2025; however, this year, with the company having more aircraft, it will resume the route.
