Suspects arrested for arson in Tulum as revenge after “El Mencho” was killed

Four men were arrested in Tulum for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking and for possible links to the fires that broke out on February 22 in various parts of the country following the death of Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office reported that the arrests resulted from coordinated operations by the Inter-Institutional Group for Peacebuilding.

Authorities are investigating whether the detainees are connected to violent acts attributed to organized crime following the death of Nemesio Oseguera, alias “El Mencho,” identified as the leader of the CJNG.

In the Invasión 2 de Octubre neighborhood, investigative agents, with support from the National Defense Secretariat and municipal police, arrested:

Carlos “N”: suspected marijuana, a handgun, and bottles containing a liquid similar to gasoline. This individual assaulted someone with a firearm and was wounded, requiring hospitalization.

Henry Geovany “N”: a green, dried substance resembling marijuana.

In the La Veleta neighborhood, the following individuals were apprehended:

José Ángel “N”: a backpack containing doses of marijuana and a substance similar to crack cocaine, as well as bottles of flammable liquid.

Arturo Emiliano “N”: doses of suspected narcotics and containers of a liquid resembling gasoline.

The State Attorney General’s Office specified that the detainees and the evidence were turned over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status according to law.

Finally, it was reported that the investigations are ongoing to determine any additional charges.
