The Government of Baja California Sur announced that, starting January 1, 2026, international visitors will be required to pay 488 pesos per person as part of the Embrace it tourism and environmental development program.
This amount was increased from the 470 pesos in effect during 2025. Payment is mandatory for foreign tourists over 12 years of age and is made exclusively online.
According to the official statement, the funds collected are allocated to environmental protection, tourism infrastructure, and social and cultural projects in communities on the peninsula.
The program is mandated by the State Tax Law and applies to visitors arriving by air or land who stay more than 24 hours in destinations such as Los Cabos, La Paz, or Loreto.
The process is completed on the official platform, which generates an electronic certificate with a QR code. This certificate can be requested during the visitor’s stay or at entry points, in accordance with current regulations.
The program released a profile of international visitors for the second half of 2025. During that period, 77.1% of payment records corresponded to tourists from the United States, 17.5% from Canada, and 5.4% from other countries.
By age, the largest percentage was concentrated among travelers aged 45 to 59 (30.25%) and 60 and over (29.94%), followed by the 30 to 44 age range (24.52%).
Regarding transactions, 74.92% were carried out on weekdays, with Friday being the busiest day (15.87%).
Most payments were made in advance: 32.80% between one and two weeks before the trip and 27.39% between four and six days prior; only 5.41% paid on the same day. The most frequent length of stay was seven days (27.14%).
Regarding this, Tourist Tax Mexico, the company operating the platform, stated: “We are proud of the positive reception Embrace it has received from international visitors.”
The program operates under the collaborative framework of Una Sola Voz (One Voice), whose message is: “Pay for tourism and protect Baja California Sur.”
