In Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar and his counterpart Salomón Jara Cruz led the Second Chiapas-Oaxaca Interstate Peace Roundtable, where they reaffirmed their commitment to working with coordination, responsibility, and political will to guarantee the security, development, and shared prosperity of both states.
During the meeting, which included representatives from the Armed Forces, prosecutors’ offices, and security institutions of both states, Ramírez Aguilar emphasized that Chiapas and Oaxaca share history, traditions, and gastronomy, as well as a common border that permanently links them. He maintained that this proximity necessitates combining capabilities and resources to comprehensively strengthen joint actions in favor of peace, the rule of law, and good governance.
“With these actions, we reaffirm our commitment to continue strengthening institutional ties in security matters. We have clarity on the objectives and the issues we must address so that no situation or problem disrupts the peace and well-being of the communities located between the borders of Chiapas and Oaxaca,” he stated, while acknowledging the leadership of the Oaxacan governor.
For his part, Salomón Jara Cruz thanked Eduardo Ramírez for his hospitality and appreciated his government’s willingness to strengthen coordination between the two states. He noted that the shared border, history, and social ties demand a joint vision based on justice, security, and development. He also emphasized that the strategy must go beyond armed presence, incorporating intelligence, law enforcement, the fight against corruption, and local development, with the goal of ensuring a border that allows for legitimate and orderly exchange.
Later, both governors inaugurated the AeroBalam flight connecting Tuxtla Gutiérrez with Oaxaca and Huatulco. Ramírez Aguilar stated that this step expands connectivity between Chiapas and southern Mexico, explaining that it is the first route established outside the state. He added that the goal is to open new destinations to the Lacandon Jungle, Veracruz, Guatemala, and Houston.
“Chiapas and Oaxaca have much to say and show the world. Oaxaca has been an international tourist destination for many years. We are doing everything to raise Chiapas’s profile both nationally and internationally, after the damage caused by violence. Now we live in different times; we have recovered, and we want to put Chiapas at the forefront as a tourist destination,” he said.
In turn, Salomón Jara emphasized that the new air connection strengthens regional integration and consolidates a strategic bridge between the two states. He indicated that, in addition to bringing cultures closer together and reducing distances, this route opens opportunities for economic and social development, facilitates investment, boosts tourism, and directly benefits the tourism value chain and local communities.
The Secretary of Tourism for Chiapas, Segundo Guillén Gordillo, noted that this route represents progress in building a tourism corridor in southern Mexico that connects nature, cultural heritage, and traditions. He announced that there will be flights to Huatulco on Thursdays and Sundays, and to Oaxaca de Juárez on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, which, he said, will translate into greater job opportunities and improved well-being.
The mayor of Chiapa de Corzo, Límbano Domínguez Román, welcomed this new phase of connectivity, acknowledging the vision of both governors in realizing a project that strengthens tourism and economic development, as well as projecting stability and social peace.
Guadalupe Ruiz López, a businesswoman with the transportation company Andabús in the state of Oaxaca, acknowledged the political will of the governments of Chiapas and Oaxaca to promote new routes and modernize air infrastructure. She believes this initiative positions both states as competitive destinations and promotes sustainable national and international tourism, allowing visitors to experience their rich cultural, gastronomic, and natural heritage.
Also present at the event were the President of the Board of Directors of the State Congress, Alejandra Gómez Mendoza; the Secretary of Mobility and Transportation and President of the Board of Directors of the Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport Operating Company, Albania González Pólito; the Secretary of Tourism for the State of Oaxaca, Saymi Pineda Velasco; the Director of the Chiapas Airport Group, Antonio Noguera Zurita; the Commander of the Federal Civil Aviation Agency at the Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport, Armando Ángeles Rodríguez; and other authorities.
