The Baja California Sur State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) issued a warning to the residents of Baja California Sur to avoid falling victim to a new form of fraud or extortion involving SMS messages related to alleged traffic tickets.

This message is fake. Don’t let someone’s deception affect your finances and stability. Report it to 089 or via WhatsApp to 612 105 89 41 with the State Cyber ​​Police.

The state of Baja California Sur joins other entities that have issued alerts about fake SMS traffic ticket messages circulating among citizens, which aim to deceive them into paying for money or obtaining personal information.

Through an official image released by the Government of the State of Baja California Sur and the Baja California Sur Public Security Secretariat, it is warned that the message is fraudulent and does not correspond to any official notification.

According to information released by authorities, the SMS message claims a traffic ticket has been issued and provides a link to make the payment:

“Traffic ticket sent to tax enforcement tomorrow. Avoid having your vehicle impounded. Pay at https://www.multax.cc/mx.

The text includes a link that redirects to a fraudulent website and uses a sense of urgency by warning of a supposed vehicle impoundment, with the aim of pressuring the victim to make an immediate payment.

The message is primarily sent via SMS from unknown numbers with the international country code (+52), although authorities have warned that this type of scam can also be replicated through instant messaging applications or links shared on social media.

Authorities urge the public not to open suspicious links, not to provide personal information, and to avoid making any payments based on these messages.
