The president of the PRI’s State Steering Committee (CDE) in Yucatán, Representative Gaspar Quintal Parra, stated that the proposed Electoral Reform promoted by the Federal Government, dubbed the “Maduro Law,” is a direct attack on the freedoms of Mexicans.
Quintal Parra asserted that the ruling party now seeks to concentrate control of the three branches of government by eliminating democratic checks and balances.
“Morena is using democratic procedures to end democracy; they want to close the ladder so that no one else can reach power,” the legislator declared.
The PRI leader pointed out that the proposal lacks technical quality and dialogue, having been drafted with a strong ideological bias.
Among the most critical points, he highlighted the intention to eliminate the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP), which he described as a historic setback.
“Eliminating the Preliminary Results Program (PREP) deprives us of certainty and transparency on election night. It is an institutional system created to inspire confidence, and now Morena wants to destroy it to govern as it pleases,” he stated.
Gaspar Quintal refuted the “savings” narrative touted by the ruling party. He explained that the budget they intend to cut from the electoral system represents barely a quarter of the subsidy allocated to the Maya Train project for 2026 (32 billion pesos).
The congressman emphasized that, for the first time since 1977, a reform of this magnitude is not taking into account the opposition or civil society. He even pointed out that the regime’s own allies, such as the Green Party (PVEM) and the Labor Party (PT), have expressed their rejection of this law due to the lack of consensus and dialogue.
“The PRI will defend the freedom of all Mexicans with a democratic commitment. We will not allow a dictatorship to be established that represses opposition voices. We will continue to point out the errors of this failed government,” he concluded.
