In the central region of Veracruz, preparations are underway to celebrate the traditional Xochitlallis ritual this first Friday of March. This ancestral ceremony of gratitude to Mother Earth brings together Indigenous communities and the general public each year at various natural sites.
In municipalities like Coetzala, the ritual will take place at the Cave of the Sun; in Cuitláhuac, at the Maguey Caves; and in Tepatlaxco, at the site known as El Boquerón. Ceremonies will also be held in Ixtaczoquitlán, at the Galicia Caves; in Zongolica, at the Totomochapa Cave; as well as in other towns where similar events will be held in open areas and natural spaces.
Xochitlallis is an act of gratitude for the harvests, the seeds, and the cycle of life.
Through dances, music, and ceremonies in caves and sacred spaces, the communities reaffirm their identity and their connection to the land.
Organizers extended the invitation to families to attend and be part of this tradition that strengthens the cultural roots of the region. Most activities begin at 9 a.m., and the ritual takes place at noon. It is recommended to wear light-colored or white clothing.
