Dances, crafts, and cuisine from Latin American countries will come together at the Atlixco Convention Center during the “International Festival of Ethnicities: Encounter of Chinas,” which will take place on March 13, 14, and 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with free admission, announced the Ministry of Arts and Culture of the administration headed by Alejandro Armenta Mier.

The event is a citizen-led initiative that aims to showcase and share the culture of diverse Mexican regions with other countries in a municipality in Puebla that, in the words of the State Undersecretary of Arts, Julio Broca Hernández, is a cultural hub that serves as a catalyst for social, political, and economic transformation at various times of the year.

With the first edition of the festival, 6,000 tourists are expected to visit, representing a significant economic boost of approximately two million pesos for the residents of Atlixco, commented Valerie Beartsch Aburto, councilwoman for the Atlixco City Council.

Meanwhile, the festival’s general coordinator, Miguel Arenas Ursino, announced that around 580 dancers, 60 artisan exhibitors, and 40 food vendors from states such as Oaxaca and Puebla, as well as from other countries like Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Bolivia, will participate.

As part of the scheduled activities, attendees will be able to enjoy 450 dances and 24 hours of live music. The traditional burning of fire baskets (pyrotechnics), a representative tradition of the Oaxacan and Atlixco China Dance, will also take place, allowing participants to experience and compare the cultural diversity of both states.
