During a working visit to Texas, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena met with diplomatic authorities and representatives of the Mexican community in Houston to strengthen institutional, economic, and social ties that will foster new development opportunities for Yucatán.

In one of North America’s most influential economic centers, the governor carried out various activities aimed at promoting the state’s potential in strategic sectors such as tourism, agribusiness, logistics, and manufacturing, as well as reinforcing cultural and business cooperation.

As part of his agenda, Díaz Mena held a working meeting with the Consul General of Mexico in Houston, María Elena Orantes López, with whom he discussed opportunities to expand the promotion of Yucatán in the United States and strengthen economic, tourism, and cultural exchange between the state and this important region of Texas.

Houston represents a strategic gateway to the U.S. market for Yucatán, as well as a potential source of investment and a key point for strengthening academic, business, and cultural collaboration between the two regions.

Accompanied by the Mexican diplomat, the Governor also led a meeting with members of the women’s community in Houston, with whom he discussed leadership, social participation, and the initiatives being promoted in Yucatán to expand development opportunities.

During the exchange, the head of the state executive branch emphasized the importance of maintaining close ties with Mexicans living abroad, as well as strengthening the bonds that will generate opportunities for collaboration, investment, and economic growth for the benefit of the state.

Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas and the fourth most populous in the United States, with a metropolitan area of nearly seven million inhabitants. In addition to its demographic size, it stands out as one of the most dynamic economic, industrial, and commercial centers in the world.

The city is also home to one of the largest Mexican and Latin American communities in the United States, making it a strategic point for strengthening economic and diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Mexico is one of Houston’s and the Port of Houston’s main trading partners, and the presence of Mexican and Texan companies in both territories contributes to strengthening economic exchange and generating business opportunities.

There is direct air connectivity between Mérida and Houston through almost daily flights linking Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport with George Bush Intercontinental Airport, facilitating tourism, trade, and business exchange between Yucatán and Texas.

During this working visit, the Governor was accompanied by the Coordinator of Strategic Projects, Dafne López Martínez, and the State Government Representative in Mexico City, Víctor José López Martínez.
